Apr 30, 2015 3:25 PM

David Price hasn't heard anything from his representation or the Detroit Tigers regarding a possible contract extension.

"Haven't heard anything," the left-hander said.

Price will become a free agent after the season if he doesn't agree to a new deal with the Tigers.

The 29-year-old has a 3.48 ERA, 1.258 WHIP and 29 strikeouts against 10 walks in 31 innings (five starts) this season.

Apr 29, 2015 3:29 PM

The Tampa Bay Rays have released Grant Balfour.

The reliever was designated for assignment last week.

Balfour looked to be signing with the Baltimore Orioles last offseason, but the club balked after looking at the results of his physical. He went on to sign with the Rays.

In 66 2/3 innings over the past two seasons, Balfour worked to a 5.00 ERA with 57 strikeouts against 45 walks.

Cardinals Will Try To Replace Wainwright From Within

Apr 28, 2015 9:00 AM

Adam Wainwright may miss the remainder of the season with an Achilles injury, but the St. Louis Cardinals have no plans to swing a major trade.

John Mozeliak says the club's first move will be to replace Wainwright from within the organization.

"If you get into May and early June and you don't feel like the internal options are the solution you were hoping for then you might have to look outside," the general manager said.

Tyler Lyons, Tim Cooney and Zach Petrick could all be short-term options to fill Wainwright's spot in the rotation. Marco Gonzales and Jaime Garcia, who are both injured, could help later on.

Price May Prefer NL Team In Free Agency

Apr 23, 2015 4:16 PM

David Price will prefer a National League team when he hits the free agent market this coming winter, according to a source close to the left-hander.

Price's inclination to sign with a NL team is related to his love of hitting.

The Detroit Tigers acquired Price in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays last summer.

Frasor Mulled Offer From Twins Before Re-Signing With Royals

Apr 23, 2015 8:03 AM

Jason Frasor entertained a one-year offer from the Minnesota Twins before re-signing with the Kansas City Royals this past winter.

"We thought about it, but I love Kansas City," Frasor said. "I went to the playoffs here for the first time in my life. Once Kansas City got back into it, all things being equal, it was (decided)."

The 37-year-old also admitted that pitching at Target Field isn't high on his list.

"Honestly, it's not my favorite," he said. "I think it's beautiful. I think it's top five, but when I stand on that mound, I feel like I need to crow hop to get it to home plate sometimes. It's wonderful to look at, but it's not one of those mounds where I feel like, 'Wow, I'm right there.'"

Frasor, who never spoke to general manager Terry Ryan during the free-agent process, appreciated Minnesota's interest.

"When you become a free agent and you're a 37-year-old middle reliever, there's not as many teams that come calling as you would think or hope. But that's all right. I just needed one team," he said.

Lucius Fox Declared Free Agent By MLB

Apr 22, 2015 7:37 AM

Lucius Fox, an 18-year-old shortstop from the Bahamas, has been declared a free agent by Major League Baseball.

Fox attended American Heritage High School in Florida, but moved back to the Bahamas recently and petitioned to be declared an international free agent.

He should be expected to land a seven-figure bonus and likely would've been a Top 50 pick had he been draft-eligible.

Could Dodgers Discuss Extension With Howie Kendrick?

Apr 20, 2015 8:24 AM

Howie Kendrick has been such an excellent fit with the Los Angeles Dodgers that there may be the possibility of a contract extension before he hits free agency in the fall.

The 31-year-old is hitting .370/.431/.674 and has helped improve L.A.'s clubhouse chemistry.

Dodgers prospect Corey Seager is playing well at Double-A, but figures to be a long-term fixture at shortstop. That leaves room for Kendrick to play second.
